This Civil War witness tree pen is hand crafted from wood obtained from an Oak tree that stood on the Shepherdstown Battlefield and witnessed the battle. The battle occurred after the battle of Antietam where the Confederate Army forded the Potomac River back into what was then Virginia, now West Virginia. The tree was not harmed, the wood is sourced from a large branch that had broken and fallen from the tree. It was obtained with permission. The provenance of the tree is detailed in a certificate of authenticity from the individual who found a Minnie ball lodged in the tree. The pen features a replica bullet tip, firing cap finial and replica rifle for the clip. The ball point is extended using the novel bolt action slide which locks into place for writing. It uses the versatile Parker style insert either ballpoint or gel.
