Description
This Civil War witness tree pen is hand crafted from wood obtained from an Oak tree that stood on the Shepherdstown Battlefield. This battle occurred after the battle of Antietam where the Confederate Army forded the Potomac River. The tree was not harmed, the wood sourced from a large branch that had broken and fallen from the tree. It was obtained with permission. The provenance of the tree is detailed in a certificate of authenticity from the individual who found the Minnie ball lodged in the tree. It also includes a card with details on the hardware used on the pen, (all replicas), finial is a Minnie ball, tip a 44 caliber bullet, clip 1861 Springfield rifle. Uses the versatile Parker style ballpoint or Gel insert.
