This Civil War witness tree pen is hand crafted from wood obtained from an Oak tree that stood on the Shepherdstown Battlefield. This battle occurred after the battle of Antietam where the Confederate Army forded the Potomac River. The tree was not harmed, the wood sourced from a large branch that had broken and fallen from the tree. It was obtained with permission. The provenance of the tree is detailed in a certificate of authenticity from the individual who found the Minnie ball lodged in the tree. It also includes information with details on the replica Civil War Minnie ball finial, .44 caliber bullet tip, and 1861 Springfield rifle clip. It uses the versatile Parker style insert either ballpoint or gel.
