Praying Hands Inlay by Dürer

$65.00

Available on backorder

Made of Olivewood imported from Bethlehem and Holly for the praying hands, this inlay has amazing detail.  Crafted after the famous pen and ink drawing by Albrecht Dürer from 1508, “Study of the Hands of an Apostle” it includes a certificate verifying the authenticity and provenance of the Olivewood.  Finished in chrome and 24 kt gold it uses a Parker style ballpoint or gel insert.

Olivewood, Olea Europaea means “Oil from/of Europe. It is a species of evergreen tree in the family Oleaceae, native to the Mediterranean, Asia and Africa.  Long a symbol of abundance, glory and peace, olive trees are very hardy: drought-, disease- and fire-resistant, and can live to a great age.  Many olive trees in the groves around the Mediterranean are said to be hundreds of years old, while an age of 2,000 years is claimed for a number of trees which in some cases, have been scientifically verified.  Olive trees rarely grow taller than 26 to 49 feet.  The trunk is typically gnarled and twisted which results in interesting grain patterns.  Because of the commercial importance of the fruit and relatively small size of the tree, olive wood is relatively expensive and not available in large pieces.

It is difficult to describe how striking this pen is until you see it in person. Great detail in the hands. Makes a very meaningful gift especially for those serving in the ministry.
